30th Sunday Ordinary Time Year B, October 28, 2018

October 2018 is almost over. The Year 12 VCE exams begin this week for most Year 12’s with the English exam on Wednesday. We will be praying for them at the 9.15 am Mass on Wednesday morning.

OLA buried one of its Pioneers this week. The requiem Mass for 93 year old Bernie Conroy took place last Wednesday. Nearly 50 years ago humble quiet Bernie was one of a dozen men who began the Cheltenham conference of the St Vincent de Paul society here.

Today is kept as “Life, Marriage and Family Sunday.” The Archdiocesan Office has produced a small booklet entitled “Living Icons: Mothers, Fathers and the Gospel of the Family” and given each parish a number of copies.

26th Sunday Ordinary Time, September 30, 2018

On Grand final weekend our thoughts are often and naturally focussed on football. But the Australian Bishops who probably aren’t interested in football keep the last Sunday of September as Social Justice Sunday. The Word of God today invites us to broaden our horizons. “The Lord came down in the Cloud. He spoke with Moses, but took some of the spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders.” These are the opening words of the first reading.

Back again after a short break. I hope all are well, and beginning to recover from the long cold but dry winter. Needless to say the attention of most people in Victoria this weekend will be on the football. Who will play off for the Grand Final?

This weekend we welcome Fr John O’Reilly to OLA while I enjoy a couple of weeks off. Fr John recently retired after being parish priest of St Albans for many years. He will be here for the next two weekends.

O.L.A Fete 2018

Things are well and truly off and running in preparation for our upcoming Fete. The theme for our 2018 Fete is ‘Country Fair’ and that is exactly the atmosphere we are aiming to create; a good, old-fashioned, fun-filled event for our parish and local community to come together and celebrate.

22nd Sunday Ordinary Time, September 2, 2018

Happy Fathers’ Day to all dads. And in particular may it be a happy family day for all families. There is a saying that it takes a village to raise a child. So it takes more than a good dad to raise a son or daughter, but dads are very important parts of our villages.
