It is International Women’s Day as I write these words, and hopefully this weekend we will remember and honour women who have been most influential in our lives.

3rd March 2019 8th Sunday Ordinary Time

“Never give in, my dear brothers and sisters, never admit defeat; keep on working at the Lord’s work always, knowing that in the Lord, you cannot be labouring in vain.” These are words from our second reading at Mass this weekend, penned by St Paul towards the end of his first letter to the Corinthians.

24th February 2019 7th Sunday Ordinary Time Year C

I think all who attended the parish Mission during this past week have been delighted, moved, and greatly encouraged by Fr Ray’s input. It has been at times an intense week of learning, and at other times an opportunity for quiet reflection and listening to wonderful stories.

6th Sunday in Ordinary Time – Year C – 17 February 2019

This past week began with the visit of our new Archbishop to celebrate the 9.00 am Mass last Sunday. It ends with the arrival of Fr Ray Sanchez CP who is running our parish mission next week. After Fr Ray’s visit for Mission Part I two years ago we are delighted that he is able to return for Mission Part II.

5th Sunday Ordinary Time, Year C, 10 February 2019

This weekend we welcome our new Archbishop among us. Archbishop Peter Comensoli will celebrate the 9.00 am Mass. He has celebrated the Eucharist in a number of parishes around the Archdiocese so far, and this weekend he adds Cheltenham to that list.

School is back. It feels like life is back to normal. But life is never normal. Next Sunday we will welcome our new Archbishop Peter Comensoli to celebrate the 9.00 am Mass. At that Mass he will commission our parish school staff for the year ahead.

There were two bits of news concerning Australia that we picked up in the Middle East. One was about the record heat wave affecting Eastern Australia. The other was the sad news of the murder of the young Palestinian Israeli exchange student, Aiia Maasarwe, here in Melbourne.

The hot weather returned this week with a vengeance! Pity our pilgrims returning from the blessed cool of the Holy Land. School holidays are drawing to a close and students and teachers will soon be gearing up for another year in the adventure of learning.

The Baptism of the Lord – Year C 13th January 2019

We welcome Fr. John O’Reilly, who will be celebrating Masses with us over these next two weekends, while Fr. Peter is in the Holy Land.
