13th Sunday Ordinary Time, June 30, 2019

The Vicar General sent word out to all parishes Thursday indicating that the Archbishop (still in Rome) has accepted my resignation as parish priest from OLA, effective July 17, and appointed me “pastor emeritus” (a retired priest) as of that date. Unfortunately, word has not come through yet about a replacement. I hope that some announcement may come through before July 17.

Corpus Christi June 23, 2019

On this feast of Corpus Christi, we read Luke’s version of the miracle story of the multiplication of the five loaves and two fish. It is the only miracle story that is told by all four evangelists (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John).

Trinity Sunday June 16, 2019

“Now I am making the whole of creation new.” These words from the Book of the Apocalypse end our second reading in this weekend’s liturgy. They sound like a political promise. But this is more than a promise; it is a statement of fact. We are an Easter people, and always an Easter people, transforming creation and our human cultures with the reality of Easter life, with Easter hope, and love, and peace.

4th Sunday Easter May 12th 2019

On this Mother’s Day of 2019, we thank and bless our mothers, true shepherds of our families. An interesting story about a mother came to light from the vocations office this week. Pope Pius X (1835-1914) was a very humble man and had a saintly mother, Margherita Sanson.
